Sioux Valley Junior Honor Society (SVJHS)
The Sioux Valley Junior Honor Society is a distinguished organization dedicated to recognizing and nurturing the potential of our middle school students. Beyond academic achievements, SVJHS celebrates students who embody the principles of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character, and Citizenship. Being a part of our chapter is a testament to a student's accomplishments and offers opportunities for personal and community growth.
Admission Criteria
Scholarship
Open to students in 7th or 8th grade with a minimum grade point average of 3.75.
Leadership
We seek students who are innovative, dependable, and have a positive outlook on life. Leadership can be showcased through school or community activities.
Service
Voluntary contributions to the school or community are essential. Members are required to complete at least 5 hours of community service for admission and annually afterward.
Citizenship
Candidates should understand the significance of civic participation, respect the American governance system, and actively engage in school and community organizations.
Character
A student should exhibit respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, caring, and citizenship. We evaluate candidates based on their adherence to these values.
Students with three or more behavior infractions, either majors or minors, within a two-year span, are ineligible.
Application Process
Inaugural applications are open for 7th and 8th graders from 1/16/24 – 2/23/24.
Applications in future cycles are open until the last Friday in September.
Staff will ensure a 3.75 unweighted GPA and discipline guidelines are met and send an email and letter to each eligible student.
Applications will be accepted up to 4:00 PM on the due date and will be submitted through a Google Form.
A faculty council will meet to review the applications after the application deadline to determine admission, which will be done by a majority vote.
Application Requirements:
Apply using the SVJHS Application Google Form by the due date.
A recommendation letter from a teacher is mandatory. (The link for teachers is in the application)
